New law scholarship being offered to local students (02/11/2007)

Southern Cross University has formed a new scholarship partnership with the Far North Coast Law Society.

The Society has come on board to sponsor a new four-year Bachelor of Laws scholarship beginning in 2008 for a local undergraduate student in the four-year Bachelor of Laws program. The scholarship will provide $5000 per year over the four-year period.

Southern Cross University Chancellor John Dowd said the scholarship will be awarded to a high achieving student who shows evidence of economic or social disadvantage.

“This provides a pathway into law for a student who may otherwise have been denied the opportunity,” he said when announcing the scholarship at the recent first-ever Council of Australian Law Deans meeting hosted by the University at their Byron Bay Community Centre office.

“The University is sincerely grateful to the society for its commitment to the education of young lawyers and we look forward to building on this relationship in the future.”
