An image of ‘Utopia’ – a skyward view of the atrium of one of Sydney’s most ‘green’ buildings – has taken out first prize in the 2015 SCU Engineering Photo Competition.

The photo was taken by Byron Bay photography enthusiast and Bay FM community radio announcer Rudiger Wasser, who has won the revolutionary Lytro camera (lets you focus or refocus pictures on a computer) courtesy of The New Camera House Lismore.

Jane Morgan, a SCU arts student majoring in writing, was highly commended with her photograph, ‘Almost a camera’. She received an iPad mini, courtesy of Southern Cross University, for her efforts. Blake Palmer’s image ‘Condong Sugar Mill’ was commended. His prize is a $150 gift voucher at the Co-op Bookshop, Lismore. The encouragement award went to Jaden Partridge for ‘Formula Car Suspension’. Jaden, a SCU Head-Start graduate, has the choice of three hours of individual photography tuition or a one-hour photo shoot, courtesy of The Odd Shot photography by Trevor Farrell.

These images, along with eight others, will feature in the 2016 SCU Engineering Calendar and in the University’s science and engineering precinct at the Lismore campus.

Inaugural SCU Cup kicks off at Southern Cross Football Centre

High school students in Lismore are competing for football supremacy in the inaugural Southern Cross University Cup, which kicked off this month.

Aimed at students aged 16 and under, the new competition will see boys and girls from the Rivers Secondary College (a collaboration of Kadina, Richmond River and Lismore High Schools) go head-to-head with students from Trinity Catholic College and St John’s College Woodlawn to find Lismore’s top high school football side.

Matches are being played Wednesday and Thursday evenings each week for six weeks under lights on the world-class synthetic field at the Southern Cross Football Centre located in East Lismore.

The boys’ matches start at 5.30pm and 7.30pm from Wednesday July 22, with the girls taking to the field at the same times from Thursday July 23.
