Nidhi Syed and Narisu Zaeta work side-by-side in SCU International at Southern Cross University’s Gold Coast campus.
The former and current Southern Cross University students have become great friends, with the common goal of helping other internationals study at the beautiful university which looks across North Kirra beach towards Surfers Paradise.
The role of international admission and support sees Nadhi, originally from India, helping students from throughout Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa, while Narisu, originally from Mongolia, focuses on Southeast Asia and greater China.
Nidhi studied her MBA at the Gold Coast campus, while Narisu is studying the same course part-time with both working full-time.
Nidhi says studying, living and working in Australia is ‘a dream come true’.
“During my 12 years living in Saudi Arabia after we moved from India, my family would come here on holidays every year and had already made many friends and connections,” Nidhi said.
“Everything is so different here, people are so friendly and I love the Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne.
“I wanted to take my degree back to Saudi Arabia, but things have rapidly changed there and the rules are very different now, so I am glad to be here and I already have a long-term plan here with my husband and children, who are 10 and 12 years old.”
Nidhi says her role now includes assessing study applications, as well as helping current students transfer courses.
“I’ve been here for two years now and I love it. Everyone is so helpful and our team is very special.”
Meanwhile Narisu has been working alongside Nidhi for the past year.
“I worked for an agent for a while in the education sector and I think my background working with international agents helped me to get this job,” she said.
“What I enjoy most is the people I work with here. It’s nice when we get to all go out together for lunch or take a walk around the campus to enjoy the sunshine when we get a break.”
